MY STORY

The Story Behind the Sound

A man with long gray hair and beard, wearing a black hat and T-shirt, holding a bunch of colorful flowers, speaking into a microphone outdoors with a blue sky and green hills in the background.

MY JOURNEY

From silence to sanctuary

I came to sound therapy the way most people do — not through belief, but through need. What follows is the path that turned a personal practice into two sanctuaries in Marin.

The Beginning

Music has always been a passion of mine. I’m a lifelong student of the guitar (still haven’t quite mastered “Stairway to Heaven”, but I remain optimistic), and an unashamed fan of live music. Then one day, my wife dragged me to a sound bath. I went in with low expectations and mild protest, assuming it would involve someone waving a crystal over my head while whale noises played in the background. But I’ll be honest, afterwards, I was utterly gobsmacked by how good I felt. It was like someone had hit the reset button on my brain

The study

I’ve always known music could shift a mood (especially if you're trying to dance at a wedding), but this was something else. I needed to understand the “why” behind it. So I dove headfirst into the science and theory of sound as a healing modality. Fast-forward through many hours of study, bowls, and occasional bouts of existential crisis, and I’m now a certified sound therapist. I blend the art of sound with the science of well-being. Think of me as your personal sound engineer for the soul. less chanting under the moonlight, more “let’s talk resonance and neural entrainment.”

What is sound healing

The science of frequency and the body

Every cell vibrates. When the body is stressed, those vibrations fall out of sync. Sound healing reintroduces coherent frequency through singing bowls, gongs, and voice — waves the body can entrain to.

As the tones hold, brainwaves slow from active beta into alpha and theta. In theta the parasympathetic nervous system takes over: heart rate drops, cortisol eases, and the body enters the state where it repairs itself.

01

Entrance

You settle in, wrapped in soft textures. The room dims. The first tones begin to fill the space.

02

Descent

Singing bowls and gongs guide brainwaves down from beta into alpha and theta — the threshold of deep healing.

03

Resonance

In theta, the parasympathetic system takes over. Heart rate slows. Repair begins at the cellular level.

04

Return

Tones fade. You surface slowly, grounded and clear — the nervous system reset and re-tuned.
